Yesterday I had a really fun maternity shoot with a lady who’s name and face won’t appear on my blog as the shoot was done as a surprise for her partner.
I turned up at Lady X’s house just as the midwife was leaving and a little before lunch and had her stripped down to a white shirt and underwear within minutes of the shoot starting. Taking your clothes off in front of another person is daunting for most of us but when you’re pregnant, feeling fat and a little out of sorts with your body I think it’s even worse. However I find maternity shoots very beautiful when done tastefully and having had 3 children myself (yes I am a female photographer for those of you who didn’t know) I know that discretion is the better part of valour. Like a lot of different things in life, it’s all about how you approach it, consideration for the feelings of others and a lot of reassurance. Pregnant women are beautiful, can be made more beautiful with a little bit of airbrushing (who doesn’t admit to wanting some of that nowadays) and if all else fails if you cut the head out of the image nobody knows that it’s you anyway.
All jokes aside, here are 2 of my favourites from the day. There were a few more with a very loving and protective dog, but to honour the modesty of my expectant mum you’ll have to book me for a session to see those : )
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
