Dollie-May, the Portrait Session of a gorgeous 1 year old.

Portrait Photography Kent

Sunday afternoon took me off to Chatham to photograph the beautiful Dollie-May with her mum Lauren and dad Luke. The portrait session was a gift for Dollie-May’s first birthday, bought months before by her doting Nan in the form of a portrait voucher, and in our pre-portrait session chat Lauren asked for the white backdrop for that ‘professional’ studio look. It only took about 15 minutes to set up (and re-arrange their living room) and we started a great session. Dollie-May was fantastic, her cousin was there to help attract her attention and the results speak for themselves.

When shooting family portrait sessions, especially when there are young children involved, I think it is important to time yourself around the best time of day for the youngest child so that you get the best out of  them. It’s the sort of advice that only a mother can give you and something I whole heartedly stick to. I can’t say it always works but it does most of the time.

Anyway, thanks Guys for a great portrait session. Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

Lifestyle Family Portrait Shoot – Herne Bay with the Clements’

Lifestyle Family Portraits Kent

The term ‘lifestyle’ family portraits is banded about very freely these days but basically it means taking your family photos in a personalised space (and not a studio). This can be your home, garden,  favourite park or beach and these photo shoots produce far more relaxed and varied images. Of course they are more reliant on the weather behaving itself (something you can’t count on in Britain) but they give your Kent family portrait session a more individual look and really make it personal to you.

On Sunday, the Clements family went off for their regular Sunday jaunt to Herne Bay, but ths time with me and my camera in tow . Here are some of the images we got and I have to say that a fun day was had by all …..

The Jones family – a family photo for Mum

Portrait Photography Medway, Kent

Nearly bringing my blogging up to date, last week I had the opportunity to photograph Lisa and her family (including brothers, sisters and dog!) in a family portrait session for their Mum. It’s amazing how often I get booked to take a family photo as a birthday present and one that I think is a really great idea.

We held the session on a Wednesday night (starting around 6pm) so that all of the kids could be fed and weren’t too grumpy before bed and spent about an hour shooting on the portable studio that I took to their home (this gives you a professional look without the need to travel!). While the dog often stole the show, I think overall they all did really well and had a good time.

Ice is prettier than snow – a Kent Photographer’s perspective

Photographer Medway Kent

I never thought I’d say this after last week’s snow, which we all assume creates the most beautiful scenery ever, but yesterday as I was standing in the School playground waiting for the kids to go in, the other mums and I commented on how beautiful the trees that make up Cliffe Woods were all covered in ice. Later that day I trundled back with my camera in tow and took the following shots. I do actually think they look prettier covered in ice than they did in the snow….

Kerry & her Cousins – a gift for their Grandparents

Portrait Photographer Kent

Yesterday saw the earliest I think I’ve ever left for a portrait session. Truth be known I have had to leave the house at 6:30am for a wedding I photographed in Grantham a few  years back but this is the earliest I’ve packed up the car and headed off to a client’s house for a shoot with 7 young cousins who wanted give their grandparents the gift of a family portrait, updated with the newest addition to the family Matthew (now 7 years old). Kerry’s house was so beautiful that we decided to forego the white studio background and use one of the rooms as a backdrop. Considering the time of the morning, I eventually got everybody smiling and the session was a success. We even finished in time for Amie to make it to work on time and Daniel to get to football. You can’t ask for more than that on a Sunday morning.
